Becoming a mother is a wonderful experience, but most women would admit that they’re not necessarily in love with the lasting effects that pregnancy and breastfeeding can have on the body. Dr. Lee B. Daniel answers some of the most common questions women ask about mommy makeovers at his Eugene, Oregon practice.

The best candidates for a mommy makeover are women who are done having children and have reached a target weight that they plan to maintain in the long run. Although it’s completely possibly to have a healthy pregnancy after a mommy makeover, you would likely feel as if your results were “undone” after a subsequent pregnancy and additional surgery may be necessary to get those results again. For this reason, it’s best to consider waiting until you’re sure your family is complete before moving forward with your surgery.
There’s a common misconception that a mommy makeover includes specific procedures, but the truth is you can customize your mommy makeover to address your specific concerns. Procedures that are commonly included in a mommy makeover are breast augmentation and a tummy tuck. However, many women opt to include other procedures, such as a breast lift, buttock enhancement or liposuction, to help them look and feel their best.
Although you may be anxious for a mommy makeover so you can regain your pre-pregnancy body, waiting until the right time will yield the best results. Most surgeons recommend that women wait a minimum of 6 months after pregnancy and breastfeeding so that their hormones can reach their normal levels. That also leaves time for you to reach your target weight and adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.
Any surgical procedure involves some scarring, and a mommy makeover is no exception. However, most women find that their new body shape more than makes up for a little scarring. Dr. Daniel takes special care to make all incisions as discreet as possible and can advise you on the best aftercare for scars. Keeping the incision sites well moisturized and protected from direct sun exposure will help your scars heal to a point of being barely detectable.
You should see a difference in your figure immediately following surgery, but your final results will take some time to develop. Because every mommy makeover is different, the speed of your recovery will vary. However, most women are able to get a good idea of their results after about 3 months, with their final results developing anywhere from 6 months to 1 year following their appointment.
