Arm Lift

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, can help you achieve the slim, toned upper arm you want after undergoing physical changes resulting from age, weight fluctuations or pregnancy. These factors can lead to loose tissue that hangs from the arms, causing feelings of self-consciousness or even hindering physical activity.

Dr. Lee B. Daniel is board certified in both general surgery and plastic surgery. He and his team at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery have helped thousands of patients achieve their goal appearance with the help of cosmetic surgery.

Before Your Arm Lift

Prior to undergoing an arm lift, you will have a consultation with Dr. Daniel. During this time, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your main concerns regarding your arms, the results that you hope to see, and any other questions you may have. Dr. Daniel will also let you know the approach that he feels would best suit your needs.

For some patients, Dr. Daniel includes liposuction as part of the brachioplasty procedure. Liposuction removes subcutaneous fat from the arms prior to removing excess skin for more refined upper arm contours.

Your Arm Lift Procedure

Arm lifts may be recommended for patients who are bothered by loose tissue on the upper arms, typically caused by:

  • Major weight loss

  • Post-pregnancy body changes

  • The natural effects of aging

The rear of the arm in particular is one of the places on the body that can be the most difficult to target with specific diet and exercise. As a result, cosmetic surgery may be the best and most straightforward way to address the problem.

The arm lift involves an incision that is located on the inner or bottom of the upper arm, or may simply be hidden in the armpit. Brachioplasty smoothes the contours of the arm and gives them a leaner, younger appearance. The arm lift may be performed with or without liposuction to remove the excess fat deposits.

The surgery is usually performed under a light general anesthesia or intravenous sedation to ensure maximum patient comfort during the procedure. The ideal incision line is first marked along the arm in the chosen position and cleaned thoroughly before the incision is made.

Excess tissue and skin are removed, and the underlying tissues are held into their new, tighter position with internal sutures. The skin is then tightened and stitched into place using fine dissolvable sutures for minimal scarring.

Healing Process for Your Arm Lift

The recovery period following an arm lift procedure varies based on the extent of the surgery and your body’s natural healing response. Dr. Daniel and staff will walk through your expected recovery timeline following the procedure, giving you personal recommendations.

Typically, there will be bandaging and possibly a compression garment to reduce swelling, which should diminish in a few weeks. Only light activity should be performed in the days following the surgery, with more strenuous activity resumed in a few weeks. Most can return to desk work in a week.

After your brachioplasty, you should notice a significant improvement in the shape and feel of your arm contours. You should also have smoother skin surrounding the arms, as well as a tighter and more toned arm shape. Your final results often give the entire upper body a fitter, more youthful appearance.
