It is estimated that 13 million Americans suffer from some degree of incontinence. In the vast majority of cases, this condition is caused by weakness of the pelvic floor, leading to leaking when coughing, sneezing or even just exercising.

Understandably, most people with incontinence wish for an effective treatment. In addition, aging, childbirth and menopause can lead to changes in women’s bodies that affect intimate wellness.

With Emsella™, treatment for incontinence and intimate wellness is here. Emsella is a unique technology that improves intimate health and wellness by improving pelvic floor tone and strength, treating incontinence without surgery or other invasive procedures.

Understanding Emsella

Like all muscles in the body, those in the pelvic floor will naturally weaken over time. This can be sped up by events such as childbirth and menopause, and it may also be impacted by other health conditions, including obesity. When this weakness reaches a certain point, the pelvic floor may no longer be able to sufficiently support the pelvic organs, leading to incontinence and other issues with intimate health.

Emsella is FDA cleared to improve pelvic floor strength in both men and women. In a single session, Emsella stimulates pelvic floor contractions to the equivalent of 12,000 Kegels. The system uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to both tone the muscles and restore neuromuscular control.

While this sounds like an intense workout, the muscle contraction is accomplished without any effort on your part. All you need to do is sit down in the Emsella chair and relax while the system does the work. You are welcome to read, listen to music or stream videos to pass the time.

Your Emsella Treatment

Treatment is easy. All you need to do is sit in the Emsella chair, fully clothed. Each Emsella treatment is customized to the needs of the patient, meaning that your Certified Advanced Aesthetician will adjust the intensity and frequency based on what is right for you. Most treatment sessions last around 30 minutes, though this will vary. However, most patients are ready to head right back to work or their day’s other activities as soon as their treatment is over.

Recovery and Results After Emsella

Since Emsella is a non-invasive procedure, there is no significant recovery period. Some patients report feeling a bit stiff getting out of the chair, and there might be some mild soreness the next day. However, neither of these issues require time off from work or other activities.

Most patients begin with a set of six sessions, two per week, finishing in three weeks. While some will see improvement after a single session, others may not observe noticeable improvement until week two. Once this initial treatment is over, maintenance sessions will be needed, though how often and how soon depends on your body.
