Healing Process for Your Breast Reduction
Recovery time after breast reduction is approximately two weeks, although this will vary depending on your body’s natural healing response and other factors. Dr. Daniel will advise you to wear a special surgical bra during this time and prescribe medications to help you control any discomfort. Some aching, swelling, and changes in skin sensation are normal during your recovery.
Most women are able to return to work within a week after surgery, depending on the demands of their job. You should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for two to four weeks after your breast reduction surgery. During the healing process, the incision marks will fade and should be almost invisible within six months.

No surgery can be performed without incisions that leave scars behind, and breast reduction is no exception. Dr. Daniel takes extra care to place incisions as discreetly as possible to minimize the appearance of scarring. Over time, scars should heal up to nearly invisible as they mature. Typically, Dr. Daniel uses a keyhole-shaped incision that follows the outer curve of the areola (the darker pigmented skin that surrounds the nipple) and then travels vertically along the underside of the breast. Sometimes, the incision may be extended outward in the natural breast crease. Most women feel that the appearance of scars is minimal when compared to the benefits they see from their results.

A so-called “scarless” breast reduction isn’t a true breast reduction at all. Instead, it’s simply liposuction applied to the breasts to contour the breast through the removal of fat cells. Since breasts are made up of both glandular tissue and fatty tissue, only a few women can see positive results from using this approach alone. Most women requiring significant reduction will see a better long-term outcome from traditional breast reduction surgery. Your breasts will look smaller and feel lighter right away after surgery, although your new breast size will be initially disguised somewhat by swelling. Dr. Daniel will have you wear a special supportive bra in the early healing stages. Most women head back to work about a week after surgery, although vigorous activities should be avoided for the next few weeks to a month. As your body heals, your results will gradually become more visible over the following several months to a year after your breast reduction.
