Your face and neck are key features that define you, but they’re also typically the first to show signs of aging. A facelift can help you refresh, smooth, and lift these areas by tightening underlying muscles, re-contouring the skin, and removing excess fat.

Dr. Lee B. Daniel is board certified in both general surgery and plastic surgery. He is known as one of the best facelift specialists serving the greater Eugene area. Dr. Daniel and his team at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery have helped thousands of women and men feel and look their best with cosmetic facial surgery and can help you too.

Before Your Facelift

When it comes to facial rejuvenation, every person has different concerns and problem spots. For this reason, scheduling a consultation with Dr. Daniel is an important part of ensuring the best possible facelift results. During your consultation, Dr. Daniel will talk more about your goals for facelift surgery, and from there you can decide together which option might be best for you.

Taking a combination approach toward facial rejuvenation can address multiple concerns at once while helping you maintain a vibrant look for even longer. In some cases, Dr. Daniel may recommend including medical spa treatments before or after your facelift to nourish and improve your skin’s tone and texture.

Your Facelift Procedure

A facelift provides more dramatic results than non-surgical options, giving the face a rejuvenated, natural, and more youthful appearance. This procedure is ideal for common signs of aging such as deep creases around the mouth, sagging or loose skin around the mid-face or neck, and decreased muscle tone or jowls along the jawline.

A facelift is often combined with a brow lift to remove expression lines above and between the eyebrows, or to lift the forehead. If sagging eyelids are your main concern rather than sagging through the lower face or upper brow, Dr. Daniel may recommend eyelid surgery.

Because the best facelift results are achieved by taking a customized approach for every patient, Dr. Daniel offers several options for facial rejuvenation:

Traditional Facelift

  • An incision is made in the hairline beginning at the temple and continuing around the ear to the lower scalp or base of the hairline.
  • Fat is removed or sculpted around the contours of the face and the muscles may be lifted.
  • The skin is set over the elevated contours and excess skin is removed.
  • In some circumstances, an additional incision is made under the chin.

Limited Incision Facelift

  • As an alternative to the traditional facelift, shorter incisions are made at the temples or around the ears.
  • Incisions may also be made in the lower eyelid or chin.

Neck Lift

  •  A neck lift addresses excess skin beneath the neck and hanging at the jowls.
  •  An incision is made in front of the ear lobe, ending at the base of the hairline.
  •  Excess skin is removed to give the neck a firmer appearance.

Healing Process for Your Facelift

Within two to four weeks after your facelift, swelling and bruising should subside. Healing should be complete after one to two months, and incision marks should fade within six months.

Following your facelift, saggy skin through the low face and upper neck should look smoother and firmer, and deep creases around the mouth should be minimized. Your final results should reveal a naturally refreshed look that gives you a younger appearance without looking “done.”

FAQ

Am I a candidate for a facelift?

In general, candidates for a facelift are in good health with no medical conditions that could interfere with the healing process. They are nonsmokers who maintain realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the procedure. For those looking to refresh their face who may not be the best candidates for a surgical procedure, Dr. Daniel provides a number of nonsurgical options that may achieve modest results. Information about these non-surgical options can be found at the spa side section of our main site.

Are there different kinds of facelifts?

Before going through with the facelift procedure, you will need to decide which option best fits your needs. For example, in a traditional facelift, fat is removed or sculpted in order to contour the face and lift the muscles. This sometimes requires a substantial incision that you may want to avoid depending on your needs.

Alternatively, there is the limited incision facelift in which shorter incisions are made either at the temples, around the ears, in the lower eyelid or chin. Procedures may be combined with a neck lift in which excess skin beneath the neck and at the jowls is removed to give a firmer appearance. You will need to discuss your needs and options with Dr. Daniel at your consultation.

How do I prepare for my procedure?

The face is an important and sensitive part of the body, and everyone needs to prepare differently for their procedure. For this reason, it is pertinent that you schedule a consultation with Dr. Daniel in which he will go over the steps that you need to take before your surgery. In this consultation, you will discuss your personal health and desired results so you can choose the best procedural option for you, including whether he recommends any medical spa treatments before or after surgery to improve skin tone and texture and create longer-lasting results.

How long is the recovery process?

It is not uncommon for swelling and bruising to continue for up to 2 to 4 weeks after the procedure. After about a month, you should see these symptoms begin to subside, with healing reaching completion after 12 months. Incision marks may take up to 6 to 12 months to fade, but there are options to improve the look of scars if redness lasts longer. After your procedure, skin on the face and upper neck should appear smoother and firmer, and wrinkles should be minimized, leaving you looking naturally younger and refreshed.
