If you’re unhappy with the shape of your nose, the size, or your ability to breathe easily, rhinoplasty may be the solution for you. Also known as nose surgery or a nose job, rhinoplasty can adjust the form and function of the nose to bring out the best in your appearance and help you keep the snoring at bay.

Dr. Lee B. Daniel understands just how central the nose is when it comes to bringing perfect balance to a man’s face. As one of the best plastic surgeons for men in the state of Oregon, he is proud to have helped thousands of men in the greater Eugene area and beyond achieve a better look and an easier time breathing with nose surgery.

Before Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

Prior to your nose surgery, you’ll have a private consultation with Dr. Daniel to talk about your preferences, goals, and concerns. This is an ideal time to ask any questions you might have about rhinoplasty and outline your ideal outcome.

Many people have nose surgery to fix an aesthetic concern, like the shape or size of the tip of the nose, a bump in the ridge of the nose, or another structural issue. On the other hand, some people have rhinoplasty to fix a breathing issue caused by a deviated septum or enlarged nasal polyps.

Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty is a highly customized procedure that will vary depending on your specific facial anatomy and goals. Most rhinoplasty operations take 1 to 3 hours and are usually performed under general anesthesia.

Depending on your needs, Dr. Daniel may make tiny incisions inside the nose, known as closed rhinoplasty, or he may access the structure of the nose and cartilage using an incision across the narrow tissue separating the nostrils, known as an open rhinoplasty.

Closed rhinoplasty procedures are usually best for men who are already happy with the symmetry and overall size of their noses and wish to only achieve minor corrections. An open rhinoplasty allows for greater access to the structure of the nose and can reshape or resize the tip, bridge, or nostrils.

In an open rhinoplasty, the soft tissue is raised away from the cartilage and bone in order to alter the structure of the nose. Excess cartilage may be removed and in some cases, Dr. Daniel may graft cartilage from other areas of the body to shape the nasal profile. In order to change the size of the nostrils, a tiny incision is made along the natural crease of the nostril.

Healing Process for Rhinoplasty

The healing process for nose surgery may vary depending on your procedure and how your body responds to surgery. For the most part, you can expect to take 1 to 2 weeks of downtime. If you had a closed rhinoplasty procedure, the healing time will be shorter than with an open rhinoplasty.

Dr. Daniel may pack your nose with gauze and in some cases may apply a splint to support the new structure while you heal. You may experience some soreness, swelling, and congestion as you heal, but these effects should fade in time.

After the first 2 weeks of healing, inflammation and bruising should be minimal enough that you can return to your normal work and social life without worrying about people noticing. Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 3 to 4 weeks after your rhinoplasty, and continue to avoid sports or activities that could involve bumping your face for the first 2 months after surgery.

You should be able to notice a difference in the appearance and feel of your nose immediately after your procedure. Your final results can take 6 months to 1 year to fully develop.
