The Rise of Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments in Everyday Life

Cosmetic treatments like Botox® and dermal fillers have come a long way from being seen as luxury procedures for the elite. A recent survey conducted in collaboration with the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) shows that these popular injectable treatments have officially entered the mainstream—especially among health-conscious, everyday women.

With insights gathered from 687 respondents, this survey sheds light on the real people behind wrinkle-reducing injections—and the results may surprise you.

Who’s Getting Botox and Fillers?

Forget the stereotypes. According to the survey, the “average” patient receiving Botox or dermal filler treatments today is:

  • A married, working mother

  • Between the ages of 41 and 55

  • Maintains a household income under $100,000

  • Values health and wellness—95% reported regular exercise, and 78% practice healthy eating

This profile challenges the outdated notion that only celebrities or the ultra-wealthy pursue cosmetic enhancements. Instead, it shows that modern patients are relatable individuals who are proactive about aging gracefully and maintaining a vibrant appearance.

Botox and Fillers: A Dynamic Duo

One of the most compelling findings from the ASAPS research is that patients rarely stop at just one type of injectable. Nearly 70% of respondents who received Botox® also chose dermal fillers, with Juvederm® being the most commonly used filler.

This combination approach addresses multiple signs of aging:

  • Botox® targets dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines (glabellar lines) between the eyebrows.

  • Fillers like Juvederm® focus on static wrinkles and volume loss, such as nasolabial folds—often called “smile lines”—that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth.

Patients appear to be increasingly well-educated about the different roles these treatments play in non-surgical facial rejuvenation.

Popular Treatment Areas

Here’s where survey participants focused their injectable treatments:

  • 72% of Botox users treated glabellar lines (the “11” lines between the eyebrows).

  • 63% of filler users targeted nasolabial folds or smile lines.

These areas are commonly among the first places people show visible signs of aging, making them ideal for first-time patients looking for subtle, yet effective improvements.

Treatment Frequency: How Often Are People Getting Injectables?

The majority of Botox patients—66%—report receiving treatment two to three times per year. This aligns with the typical duration of Botox effectiveness, which usually lasts around 3–4 months.

Fillers tend to last longer, depending on the formulation and the treated area. Still, many patients opt for regular maintenance visits to keep their results fresh and natural-looking.

Talking About Cosmetic Enhancements: The Stigma Is Fading

Perhaps one of the most encouraging findings is that 87% of respondents said they talk openly about their treatments. Of those who did, 70% said they received support from friends and family.

This openness signals a positive cultural shift in how we view aesthetic medicine. Rather than hiding treatments, patients are embracing them as part of their self-care routine—not unlike a new fitness program or skincare regimen.

Why Patients Choose Injectables

The reasons patients turn to non-surgical treatments like Botox and dermal fillers are deeply personal. For some, it’s about restoring confidence after years of sun exposure or stress. For others, it’s simply about looking as youthful as they feel.

Injectables offer:

  • Minimal downtime

  • Quick treatment sessions

  • Customizable results

  • Gradual, natural-looking enhancements

These benefits make injectables the go-to choice for patients who want visible results without surgery.

Thinking About Botox or Fillers? You’re Not Alone

If you’ve ever considered wrinkle treatments but felt hesitant, this survey should offer some reassurance—you are far from alone.
