There’s no doubt about the fact that BOTOX® has gone mainstream. The beloved injectable has a proven, safe track record and is approved by the FDA to minimize the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Even though BOTOX® is incredibly popular, there are some things you should do before your appointment to make sure you’re properly prepared.
Be Mindful of Medications
Before your BOTOX® appointment, avoid the use of certain medications, including common over-the-counter drugs like aspirin or ibuprofen. Taking these medications in the days leading up to your appointment won’t cause any serious complications, but they are blood thinners and could increase the likelihood of bruising at the injection sites.
Understand the Process
Being educated on how BOTOX® works is important before heading to your first appointment. The treatment itself usually only takes a few minutes and causes very little pain or discomfort. However, it can take up to a week for the BOTOX® to take full effect. It’s important to be patient and to understand you won’t see final results immediately after leaving your appointment.
Have Realistic Expectations
BOTOX® can deliver beautiful results and help you put your best face forward, but you should have realistic expectations about your outcome. BOTOX® will temporarily disable the muscles that create some expression-related wrinkles, such as between the eyebrows and on the forehead. This will result in a smoother appearance and will minimize dynamic wrinkles. However, BOTOX® isn’t capable of filling in large, static wrinkles or improving skin firmness.
Discuss your goals and expectations with your BOTOX® professional before your injections.Additional treatments, such as dermal fillers, might further enhance your results for an overall rejuvenated appearance.
