Plastic surgeons in America have publicly opposed the recently added elective cosmetic medical tax that was unveiled Wednesday within the latest healthcare reform bill. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery have objected to the tax as discriminatory, arbitrary, and difficult to administer.
The tax is being labeled discriminatory because of statistics on cosmetic surgery that have repeatedly shown cosmetic surgery patients to be female, working class people. Dr. Jennifer Walden appeared on Fox news last night to discuss the problems with this proposed tax.
